International Compost Awareness Week Celebrations
May 1- 7, 2005
Be a part of the largest environmental education event for composting. The U.S. Composting Council officially invites you to join in celebrating International Compost Awareness Week. Across the United States , Canada and the UK , composting advocates will be encouraging everyone to Compost! This year's national poster theme, "The Possibilities Are Endless - Compost!" is a great way to get the message out. All types of composting from "do it yourself" composting in your backyard to large-scale, community-wide composting will be promoted during this week.
Compost Awareness Week is a fun and educational week of events that offers an opportunity to learn more about the many benefits of composting while enjoying the backdrop of fun activities. To find out what's going on in your area - visit www.compostingcouncil.org for a list of activities along with proclamations, press releases for states, counties and cities, and public service announcements for the week-long event. RecycleWorks Launches New Website
The RecycleWorks program of San Mateo County has significantly expanded its website, www.RecycleWorks.org, to help residents
and businesses of San Mateo County take advantage of local environmental resources. The new sections include a focus on sustainability, environmental education, and environmental programs offered by each of the 21 jurisdictions in San Mateo County .
RecycleWorks.org was recently redesigned and expanded to address sustainability, which incorporates a broader range of issues than recycling alone. The sustainability section of the RecycleWorks website addresses fundamental changes to the way energy, housing, product design, environmental policy and business is being thought about. Sustainable solutions are not easy and require collaboration among many sectors of the economy. For those who are not connected to the web, RecycleWorks also maintains a hotline at 1-888-442-2666.
