RecycleWorks Launches New Website

Site helps San Mateo County residents take advantage of local environmental resources

The RecycleWorks program of San Mateo County has significantly expanded its website, www.RecycleWorks.org, to help residents and businesses of San Mateo County take advantage of local environmental resources. The new sections include a focus on sustainability, environmental education, and environmental programs offered by each of the 21 jurisdictions in San Mateo County .

RecycleWorks.org was recently redesigned and expanded to address sustainability, which incorporates a broader range of issues than recycling alone. The sustainability section of the RecycleWorks website addresses fundamental changes to the way energy, housing, product design, environmental policy and business is being thought about. Sustainable solutions are not easy and require collaboration among many sectors of the economy. The RecycleWorks website strives to be a resource to move sustainability forward in San Mateo County .

The RecycleWorks website serves as a clearinghouse for environmental programs in the 21 cities of San Mateo County . The new government section of the site lists C&D recycling ordinances, water conservation programs, green building policies and curbside recycling programs for each jurisdiction. Policymakers can use this section as a springboard for researching programs.

The kids section is another new addition to the RecycleWorks website. It is targeted at students between 5 th and 7 th grade and ties into the concepts taught at outdoor education programs attended by most Bay Area students. Students who enter the website will be presented with five natural resources – plants, animals, decomposers, water and soil – which they will learn about through games, quizzes, photos and examples having to do with the Bay Area environment. To compliment the information on natural resources, students will be taken through a series of activities regarding reuse, recycling and disposal.

For those who are not connected to the web, RecycleWorks also maintains a hotline at 1-888-442-2666.
