Dell gives $10,000 grants to 12 groups for computer collection events

ROUND ROCK, TEXAS (Jan. 29) -- Dell Inc. announced on Jan. 29 that 12 grant winners will receive $10,000 each to run computer collection events this spring.

The winners are Green Star Inc. of Anchorage, Alaska; Central Contra Costa Solid Waste Authority of San Ramon, Calif.; the Washington Department of Public Works Office of Recycling; the city of Atlanta and Tech Corps of Georgia Inc.; Bridging the Gap of Kansas City, Mo.; the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality; the Sante Fe, N.M., Solid Waste Management Agency; the town of Bethlehem, N.Y.; the Centre County Solid Waste Authority of State College, Pa.; the Recycling Market Development Advisory Council of Columbia, S.C.; the Solid Waste Office of the city of Knoxville, Tenn.; and Keep Greater Milwaukee Beautiful, of Milwaukee.

Some 200 groups applied for the grants, including state and local governments, higher education institutes and nonprofit organizations. Grantees will use the money to organize and promote computer recycling events and to collect and recycle the equipment. As part of the program, the National Recycling Coalition will provide technical assistance and guidance for the events.
