Organics Policy StatementWhereas, organics (primarily consisting of yard waste, wood waste, and food waste) comprises a significant portion of California's waste stream; Whereas, organics in landfills contributes to leachate generation and greenhouse gas production; Whereas, organics are a valuable resource that should be conserved or recycled and not landfilled; Whereas, a significant and increasing amount of existing organics diversion results from yard waste used for Alternative Daily Cover (ADC); Whereas, more environmentally beneficial and sustainable end markets exist for organics compared to use as ADC; Whereas, diversion of organics for composting and mulching benefits California's economy and environment, while helping to achieve state recycling goals: Therefore, CORC adopts the following policy statement to support organics recycling in California:
