Food Recovery and Zero Waste Fiesta 1
In this session, panelists will discuss the opportunities to reduce the amount of food scraps going to the landfill. Starting upstream, panelists will share activities to reduce amount of food left over, "rescue" food for soup kitchens and needy families (applicable to citizens, nonprofits, event planners and restaurants), and give a road map for implementing food scrap retrieval for composting (how to setup cluster of businesses, community composting, acceptable items (soiled paper, etc)). Bioplastics and their effects on composting will also be discussed.

Focus on Materials Fiesta 2
The question always comes up: How can I possibly recycle this material? This session will focus on two difficult to recycle materials, tires and shingles. Also discussed will be the effect of material quality to final product, as examined through glass cullet. In addition to giving participants a solid understanding of the mechanics of specific material recovery, this session will offer several strategies for engaging partners and stakeholders, overcoming regulatory barriers, and creating public-private partnerships.

Reusable Packaging Association (RPA) Intersection With Business Recycling Programs Fiesta 3
The Reusable Packaging Association (RPA) promotes the value of reusable transport packaging systems across all industries as the preferred packaging solution. The RPA (formally known as the Reusable Pallet and Container Coalition) was founded in 1998. RPA promotes the economic, environmental and social benefits of reusables in the marketplace, are the recognized expert in reusable supply chain packaging solutions, and are the collective voice for the growing reusable packaging industry.
StopWaste.Org is the first public recycling agency to partnered with RPA to promote reusable packaging via its award-winning Use Reusables program. The session will explore how reusable packaging intersects with public agency business recycling assistance efforts, and identify opportunities to expand promotion of reusable transport packaging systems.

Tribal Community Resource Conservation and Pollution Prevention Projects Fiesta 1
This session will discuss innovative resource conservation and pollution prevention projects being implemented by tribes in California. Specific projects highlighted in this session include a comprehensive waste transfer station owned and operated by the Pala Band of Mission Indians. The Tribal transfer station was opened in 2008 and is a state-certified buy back center open to the public. Currently the facility handles all casino and community curbside recycling including cardboard, plastic, glass, and metals, and has a greenwaste mulching program.

State Wide Mandatory Commercial Recycling
Under AB 32 Fiesta 3
Californians Against Waste was successful in getting a measure requiring mandatory commercial recycling included in the AB 32 Scoping Plan. The requirement would be placed on generators (businesses and multi-family dwellings). CIWMB has been charged with developing rules, plus there are various draft legislative bills that include some form of mandatory commercial recycling. This session is an interactive forum designed to identify and discuss the interests of the major stakeholder groups, including businesses, local government, service providers, and the State. Most importantly, the session will identify and establish common interests. Session outcomes include identification of stakeholder and common interests that would guide the development of CIWMB rule-making process, more informed stakeholders, increased engagement in the rule making process, and broader support for the final product of that process.

Business Recycling Tools Certification Class Desert Suite 1
The course will evaluate the material resources purchase practices by businesses and municipal programs to help businesses deliver products and services to its customers while decreasing wasteful habits and increasing reuse and recycling activities. This course will help identify ways to implement effective recycling programs within businesses, and composting programs for grocery stores, restaurants and other food service businesses. For the recycling system to work well products made from recycled materials must be purchased by the businesses that recycle.

Curiosity Quest is an upbeat, family, educational program that explores what viewers are curious about. In each show, host Joel Greene, ventures on a quest to answer viewer's letters of curiosity. Each quest takes the audience on location for an unscripted, hands-on, educational exploration. In addition, throughout each program, Join Joel as he hits the streets to get real and often comical answers to questions pertaining to this stinky adventure to the sewer plant.

Local Conservation Corps have been recognized for almost 2 decades at being the premier large venue and special event recycler. LCCs recycle at almost every major venue in California including Petco Park, Dodger Stadium, and the Oakland Coliseum, to name but a few.
