RecycleMania: Making Recycling Competitive at Colleges and Universities
How do you motivate college students to think about recycling and waste reduction in between studying and their social lives? Begun six year ago as a challenge between
two Ohio universities, Recyclemania harnesses the competitive spirit found on college campuses to motivate students to reduce and recycle. Schools across the country square off in categories ranging from overall per capita recycling to lowest total waste generation. This session will feature an overview of the competition followed by a panel discussion with recycling coordinators from a handful of the over 200 schools participating nationwide.
Moderator: Alec Cooley (National Recycling Coalition); Speakers: Julie Muir (PSSI/Stanford Recycling), Lin King (UC Davis, R4 Recycling Program), Carl Hanson (CSU San Marcos, Facility Services)
