TOUR DESCRIPTIONS

Monday, July 24th, 9:00am-12 noon

All tour buses will depart from the Sacramento Convention Center at 9:00 a.m. and will reconvene at 12 noon at the Convention Center. Seating at all tours is limited and pre-registration is required.

Tour #1 - Sacramento Facility Showcase

Greenstone Industries Inc. – This RMDZ loan recipient, formerly known as Fiberwood, utilizes 40 tons per day of mixed paper for the manufacturing of attic insulation and hydromulch.

City Compost Facility and Closed Landfill – Located in the heart of the City, this facility features the oldest permitted compost facility in California as well as a closed landfill. This site will begin transition from a solid waste vehicle dispatch and maintenance facility to Sutter's Regional Landing Park in August 2000.

Sacramento Recycling and Transfer Station – Operated by BLT Enterprises, this facility accepts the City of Sacramento’s waste for transfer to a Nevada landfill; it also features a visitor's center and household hazardous waste facility. The facility also accepts commercial tonnage from private haulers and is designed to divert approximately 30% of the 1,500 tons per day.

Tour #2 - Computer Recycling

Micro Metallics – Next door to the HP Facility, Micro Metallics provides state-of-the-art-recycling services for electronic products and component featuring a fully-automated computer controlled metal separation plant.

Hewlett-Packard Roseville Campus – This WRAP winner widely recognized for its waste reduction and recycling programs annually diverts a phenomenal 92.3% (10,000 tons) of the total refuse generated at the HP Roseville campus avoiding over $1 million in disposal costs.

Tour #3 - Organics

Lionudakis Compost Facility – The newly permitted Lionudakis Compost Facility composts Sacramento County green waste and features a state of the art misting and odor control system.

Tour #4 - College/State Facilities

Participants will travel to nearby UC Davis, Cal State University Sacramento, and the where they can expect to observe the variety of innovations, pitfalls, and challenges of each facility. Participants will examine how materials are collected, sorted, and processed. This tour is designed for participants setting up programs in compliance with AB75 requiring diversion at all state facilities.
